SBA's District Office Selects Haitian-American Harold Charles as Small Business Person of the Year representing the State of Maryland WASHINGTON, DC – On May 15, 2014, CEEPCO President Harold Charles was selected by the U.S. Small Business Administration's Washington Metropolitan Area District Office (WMADO) as the 2014 Small Business Person of the Year representing the state of Maryland. He was presented with the award during a ceremony to commemorate Small Business Week at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. CEEPCO has offices in Port-au-Prince and Cap Haitien, with over 50 full-time employees. It has created over 3,000 jobs in Haiti through its subcontractors and consultants in the past five years. 98% of its subcontractors and consultants are Haitians living in Haiti or Haitians living abroad. Its activities in Haiti focus on: rekindling economic growth through capacity building, education and job creation, rebuilding infrastructure damaged by natural disasters, expanding access to basic public services, reducing the country's vulnerability to natural disasters, developing and implementing sustainable human settlements with an emphasis on environmental preservation, food security, environmental and public services infrastructure. |
