Haiti - Health : Dr. René Charles decorated by President Martelly

Friday, November 14 at the National Palace, the President Michel Martelly awarded the Ordre National Honor and Merit at Grade of Grand Cross Silver plate, to the Dr. René Charles, President of the Haitian Foundation for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases (FHADIMAC).

The Head of State, in the presence of Dr. Florence Duperval Guillaume, Minister of Public Health, members of the FHADIMAC and family of Dr. Charles, wanted by this distinction, honor the outstanding work of this great man who practically devoted his professional career to the care of patients with diabetes and the consequences of this chronic disease

Speaking to Dr. Charles, the Head of State declared, "This is a way for the Haitian government to express to you the gratitude of the community who have benefited from your services, your teachings, your lights," presenting the path of the President of the FHADIMAC as an example to the Haitians, for the youth can be inspired by it, its participation in the construction of the new Haiti.

The minister Guillaume did not hide her satisfaction with the work done by Dr. Charles in the fight against diabetes, which now affects about 300,000 Haitians. "We need to encourage all those who help to counteract diabetes," highlighting the work of the Foundation, which has helped many people affected by diabetes and hypertension, to live better with their condition.

For his part, Dr. René Charles, not only expressed his joy on receiving this distinction, but also that not to have spared his efforts in order to reach out to people affected by diabetes. He took the opportunity to commend "the invaluable efforts" of his close collaborators and appealed to the humanity of all Haitians, to help all those who are in need, concluding "it is time to make room for a civilization of love."

Dr. Charles is Founding Member of the Haitian Association of Diabetes (AHD) in 1987, became in 1993 the Haitian Foundation for Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases, whose he since holds the presidency. Dr. Charles is considered as one of the largest Haitian figures in the fight against diabetes in the Caribbean.
